Keeping up with your dog's vaccination schedule in Dubai protects them from serious diseases and keeps their paperwork in order for registration, boarding and travel. Here is how vaccinations usually work, from the first puppy visit to yearly boosters. Every dog is different, so your vet will tailor the plan to your dog's age, health and lifestyle.

Which vaccines does a dog need in Dubai?

Vaccines are grouped into two types.

Core vaccines are recommended for every dog

  • Distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parvovirus and parainfluenza. Usually given together as one combined vaccine (often called DHPP).
  • Rabies. Required in the UAE.

Non-core vaccines depend on lifestyle

  • Leptospirosis, for dogs with exposure to water, soil or other animals.
  • Kennel cough (Bordetella), often required by boarding kennels, groomers and daycare.

When should a puppy get vaccinated?

A typical puppy schedule looks like this:

AgeWhat usually happens
6 to 8 weeksFirst combined vaccine, health check, deworming
10 to 12 weeksSecond combined vaccine
12 to 16 weeksThird combined vaccine, first rabies vaccine
16 weeks and overFinal puppy dose if your vet advises
12 monthsFirst booster

Puppies get several doses because antibodies from their mother can block a single early vaccine. The series makes sure protection actually takes hold.

How often does an adult dog need boosters?

After the first year, boosters usually follow a one to three year cycle, depending on the vaccine and the product used. Rabies boosters follow the timing on your dog's certificate. Your vet will put the dates on the vaccination card so nothing is missed.

Are vaccinations needed to register a dog in Dubai?

Yes. Dogs in Dubai need to be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies to be registered with the Dubai Municipality. Boarding, grooming and travel providers will also ask to see up to date records, so keep the vaccine card safe.

💡 Keep Your Records Handy

Take a photo of your dog's vaccination card and keep it on your phone. Kennels, groomers and travel providers will often ask for it at short notice.

Does an indoor dog still need vaccines?

Yes. Even dogs that rarely leave the apartment meet other dogs in lifts, lobbies, parks and at the groomer. Parvovirus in particular survives in the environment for a long time and can be carried in on shoes.

What side effects are normal after a vaccine?

Mild tiredness, a small lump at the injection site or slightly lower appetite for a day are common. Call your vet straight away if you notice facial swelling, vomiting, hives or breathing trouble. If it happens out of hours, call our emergency line on +971 56 689 1655.
