Whether you have just adopted a kitten or your cat has lived with you for years, cat vaccinations in Dubai are one of the simplest ways to protect them. This guide explains the core vaccines, a typical kitten schedule, and why indoor cats still need their shots.
Which vaccines does a cat need?
Core vaccines are recommended for every cat
- Feline herpesvirus and calicivirus (the main causes of cat flu)
- Feline panleukopenia (feline parvovirus)
These three are usually given together as one combined vaccine (often called FVRCP).
- Rabies, required in the UAE.
Non-core vaccines depend on lifestyle
- Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV), recommended for kittens and for cats that go outdoors or live with other cats.
When should a kitten get vaccinated?
| Age | What usually happens |
|---|---|
| 6 to 8 weeks | First combined vaccine, health check, deworming |
| 10 to 12 weeks | Second combined vaccine, FeLV if advised |
| 12 to 16 weeks | Third combined vaccine, first rabies vaccine |
| 6 to 12 months | First booster, timing set by your vet |
After that, boosters usually run on a one to three year cycle depending on the vaccine and your cat's lifestyle.
My cat never goes outside. Do they still need vaccines?
Yes. Cat flu viruses and panleukopenia can be carried into your home on shoes, clothes and hands. Indoor cats also travel, visit groomers and go into boarding, all of which need up to date vaccines. Your vet may suggest a lighter schedule for a strictly indoor adult cat, but the core vaccines still matter.
How do I make the vet visit less stressful for my cat?
- Leave the carrier out at home for a few days so it stops being scary.
- Put a familiar blanket inside and cover the carrier in the car.
- Book a quieter time slot if your cat is nervous.
- Ask about our pick and drop service if travel is the hard part.
